History

Theog town was notified as Notified Area Committee in the year 1949 & upgraded in the status of Small Town Committee in the year 1962. Thereafter the boundaries of the jurisdiction of the committee were extended & the area merged up to four square Kilometers. The status of the committee was further upgraded to the 2nd class Municipality in the year 1968. In pursuance to the 74th constitutional amendments Act, 1993 the Governor of H.P. has promulgated the H.P. Municipal Ordinance No. 2 of 1994 on 30.05.1994.

Under section 3 of the ordinance every Municipality existing at the commencement of this ordinance was designated as Municipal Council. Accordingly this Municipal committee was designated as Municipal Council. Accordingly to 2011 census, the population of the Municipality has gone up to 4351. The last election to the Municipality held recently in January, 2011. The Municipality has also provided rent fee accommodation for the housing of District Library. Sanitation is being maintained by providing sufficient sanitary staff, awarding approximate 50% sanitation work on contract and toilets the town. The council has constructed Meat market with five shops along with Slaughter house. About 18 public taps for supplying of drinking water have also been provided by the Municipality at different places of the town.

The water supply is being maintained by the Irrigation and Public Health Deptt. There are six temples namely: Laxmi Narain Mandir, Bhima Kali, Anapurna Mata, Vaishno Devi, Lord Shiva and Durga Mata Mandir. This Municipality is situated 32 Km. far from the Distt. Headquarter Shimla on the National Highway-22 which is called Hindustan Tibet road & the height of the town from the sea level is about 7500 ft.

Theog Municipal Council has come a long way and is playing its role in betterment of society as:-

  1. Sanitation Services:- From providing facility of Public toilets, Mc Theog plays role in door to door garbage collection and basic cleanliness of town to make swacchbharat mission a success.

  2. Livelihood:- From providing Livelihood to the poor under MukhyamantriShahriAajevika Yojana, Mc Theog also  has many success stories under Day NULM where loans are provided to Self help group members, which generated self employment. Apart from that Street vendors were allotted loans under PM svanidhi Yojana during Covid times.

  4. Shelter to Urban Homeless- under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
  5. Safety and security of Town- Mc Theog has installed Mast Lights at prominent places and is in process of installing CCTV cameras across the town.
  6. Sustainable development- With installation of Solar Lights and regular tree plantation, Mc Theog has helped in conservation of nature.
  7. Drug free Theog- Regular Anti Drug campaigns conducted with Self help group members, sanitation works, etc.
  8. Social Service:-The Municipality has also provided rent fee accommodation for the housing of District Library.
